On February 11th, the O2 Arena in London held the biggest award show in the United Kingdom: The BRITs Awards. The ceremony got remarked by illustrious presences, fans’ complaints, and some peculiarities. Missed the highlights of the night? Then catch up with this summary of the #Brits2023.
Of course, our kickstart has to be the center of the night: the awards. And as clearly, we should begin by talking about Mr. Harry Styles. The As It Was performer won each of his nominations: Album of The Year (Harry’s House), Song of The Year (As It Was), Best Pop/R&B Act, and Artist of The Year.
During one of his speeches Styles thanked his ex-bandmates, “[…] I ‘wanna’ thank Niall, Louis, Liam, and Zayn ‘cause I wouldn’t be here without you […]”, said him. The hitmaker also celebrated a win by pecking Before You Go singer Lewis Capaldi.
But we are lying in no bed of roses. During the ceremony, Twitter’s trending topics were topped by Arctic Monkeys. This time for a not-so-good reason. The fans of the indie rock group showed frustration with the group’s losses in the Group of The Year (winner: Wet Leg) and Best Alternative/Rock Artist (winner: The 1975) nominations. Arctic Monkeys’ stans debated how the band has been active for over a decade but barely gets recognized with any prizes.
Another recognition lack (well, at least in the areas we cheered to be noticed)? Let’s jump to “unholy” topics. From the red carpet to the stage, Sam Smith attracted all the spotlight for himself. It is impossible to describe his appearance in the BRITs as anything but bold.
Besides the gasping red carpet outfit, the singer was responsible for a show stopping performance. By the way, this year’s BRITs counted with some groundbreaking stages. Lizzo got heavily applauded during her medley of Special, 2 Be Loved, and About Damn Time. As for Sam Smith and Kim Petras, they rocked the stage with a fierce performance of the smashing hit Unholy – which has sadly taken no awards home.
After all, it is indeed that the BRITs Awards 2023 was a night to remember.
